Four attackers armed with samurai swords targeted a police station in western Indonesia on Wednesday morning, killing at least one officer, police said.

The attackers had used two motorcycles with explosive bombs.
Police have been frequent targets of mostly low-level attacks by local militants, including a 2017 suicide bombing at a bus station in Jakarta that killed three officers.
"They had the same teacher and they regularly met for Koran recital every week", said East Java police chief Machfud Arifin, adding that police were pursuing the teacher for questioning. The key figure in the attacks was the head of the Surabaya cell of a network of Indonesian extremists who have aligned themselves with IS.
