"Our United States team has arrived in North Korea to make arrangements for the Summit between Kim Jong Un and myself", Trump said in tweet on Sunday afternoon, making no reference to his recent decision to pull out of the meeting.
When Donald Trump abruptly scrapped their planned summit, Kim Jong Un sought out someone he knew would come over for a chat: South Korean leader Moon Jae-in.
But South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Sunday that the reclusive North Korean leader is indeed committed to a full denuclearization of the peninsula, after the two leaders gathered in an impromptu meeting Saturday in hopes of jump-starting diplomatic talks once more.
The State Department says a team of USA officials also met with North Korean officials in Panmunjom on Sunday.
Sung Kim, the former United States ambassador to South Korea and current ambassador to the Philippines, led that American delegation, an American official said.
A U.S. delegation was in North Korea to prepare for a potential Trump-Kim summit, the State Department said Sunday.
"Because, if they don't have money, they can't launch missiles, they can't detonate nukes, and Kim Jong Un can't give gifts to senior regime members in order to buy loyalty, which means he has to give up his weapons".
"During the South Korea-U.S. summit, President Trump said the U.S.is willing to clearly put an end to hostile relations (between the U.S. and North Korea) and help (the North) achieve economic prosperity if North Korea conducts denuclearization", he said.More news: John Terry's new Chelsea clause is a bit embarrassing
"This is how progress is made, and the best chance to have a summit, and one that yields meaningful outcomes", Narang told the Washington Post - though he and many other experts continue to point out that if the Trump administration expects North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons as part of any deal, they are going to be disappointed.
Mr. Trump announced last week he was ending them over North Korean hostilities but now says negotiations have picked back up and he spoke Sunday as if the summit was a "go".
North Korea has rejected the US's demand for it to unilaterally abandon its nuclear weapons programme.
It has long said it is open to eventually giving up its nuclear arsenal if the U.S. withdraws its troops from South Korea and ends its "nuclear umbrella" alliance with Seoul.
Among those in North Korea on behalf of the US was Sung Kim, the veteran diplomat and current USA ambassador to the Philippines.
A senior North Korean official arrived in Beijing on Tuesday en route to the U.S. to hold preparatory talks over a possible summit between the leaders of the two countries, media reported.
Direct dialogue between the two leaders is crucial to resolving the nuclear issue, it added. He later said the United States was talking to North Korea and it could still go ahead.
"I miss Trump, I'm already here in Singapore waiting for him to turn up", he said.
Before canceling the summit last week, Trump said that China had eased up enforcement of sanctions on its border.
