After rebuffing a call by US President Donald Trump for Russian Federation to be allowed back into the organisation's ranks, the G7 also endorsed Britain's accusation that Moscow was behind a recent poisoning attack in the southwest of England on one of its own former spies.
They built on the momentum Trump started a day earlier when he fired Twitter salvos from Air Force One, hours after departing the G7 summit, calling Trudeau "very dishonest and weak", among other things.
White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow accused Trudeau of undermining Trump right before his meeting in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
At issue are US tariffs against Canada and Trudeau's effort to retaliate against its neighbor - as well as Trudeau's comment to reporters that all seven leaders had come together to sign a joint declaration after the G-7 meeting.
White House aide Larry Kudlow tells CNN's "State of the Union" says Trudeau has done a "great disservice" to the G-7 by saying Canada had to stand up for itself and that the USA was responsible for the problem with tariffs.
U.S. President Donald Trump recently slapped tariffs on Canada, Mexico and the European Union, angering his counterparts before he arrived at the summit.
But Trudeau says what the leaders did this weekend was "roll up our sleeves" and figure out language they could agree to on a broad range of issues.
"It is a historic negotiation and there is no way this president is not going to stand strong", Kudkow said on CBS' Face the Nation.
"There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door", Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro said in an interview nationally broadcast in the United States. "Angela (Merkel) and Emmanuel (Macron) and Justin (Trudeau) - I would say the relationship is a 10".
Donald Trump and Justin Trudeau have been at loggerheads over trade tariffs
Trump called the summit a "one time shot" for Kim, but expressed optimism at the beginning of talks with the North Korean regime.
"In terms of the approach that governments choose to take, Canada does not believe that ad-hominem attacks are a particularly appropriate or useful way to conduct our relations with other countries", she said.
"He was even willing to sign that socialist communique", Navarro said, referring to the joint statement of G7 nations that Trump ultimately refused to sign, and which was reportedly the result of hard-line American demands.
He described Trudeau's actions after the G7 summit as a "sophomoric play".
"He really kind of stabbed us in the back".
Trump's admission would make the tariffs illegal.
Support for Canada and its allies surfaced in the US, with Republican Arizona Sen. Trudeau stuck our president in the back.
"I think it would be an asset to have Russian Federation back in". "It's for them that we work together".
Canada has flatly rejected welcoming Russian Federation back to the G7 fold, pointing to its annexation of Crimea.More news: ‘Battlefield V’ Royale & Multiplayer Trailer Revealed at EA Play
