Pep Guardiola takes jab at Benjamin Mendy and his hilarious Twitter account

We wanted to be professional, to make it serious like last season and we did it.

Despite playing just seven times last season for City, the Frenchman was ever-present thanks in large part to his vibrant presence on social media. Mesut Ozil enjoyed a largely uncharacteristic game in the final third while City's counterpressing did enough to stifle Arsenal and force them into quicker, unstable progressions.

Raheem took to Twitter after the win, posting about his delight at hitting 50 league goals. The basis of attacks as either Sterling or Mahrez's attacking qualities are superior to Arsenal's makeshift left-back Ashley Maitland-Niles defensive skills.

City boss Pep Guardiola: "We played a high level considering the lack of physical condition for numerous players who arrived back late after the World Cup. But I think this process is normal today against a great team like Manchester City".

"People only judge players on the goals they score at the World Cup, but Raheem has this special relation with English football, he's so loved in the locker room". "What we have done last season, now [people say] we are going to win [again] - nobody can assure me of that".

"Mendy is... Mendy. Sometimes you want to kill him, and sometimes you want to say, 'What a player!'".

"We played as good as possible today and we extended a really good pre-season into the Premier League", Reds boss Juergen Klopp said. The influential effort was capped in the 64th minute when Silva cleverly peeled away from his Arsenal marker to meet Benjamin Mendy's cross with a fine finish that flashed past Gunners goalkeeper Petr Cech.

"In fact, I think I hate him". 19-year-old Metteo Guendouzi was provided his first competitive start following his summer move from Ligue 2 side Lorient and the youngster seemed confident, happy to drop deep and regularly provide a passing option to his defenders. He could have done better with Sterling's opening goal, while looking uncharacteristically shaky in possession, nearly passing the ball directly into his own net at one stage. And he has this experience of defending our goal.

"We just start again".
