Eleven people on an Emirates airline flight were taken to a New York City hospital suffering flu-like symptoms on Wednesday after scores of passengers and crew complained of feeling sick during a 14-hour trip from the Middle East, officials said.
"As a precaution, they were immediately checked by local health authorities and those needing medical attention will be attended to", Emirates said in a statement. NBC first reported that 100 passengers felt sick, but Emirates later estimated a much lower number.
All other passengers will be disembarking shortly.

The plane was quarantined after it landed and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was at the scene, said New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio's press secretary, Eric Phillips. He added that all symptoms pointed to the flu. The rest of the passengers were released after evaluations.
He said 521 people were on board and that sick passengers were being triaged on the plane.
The rapper tweeted from the top floor of Emirates Flight 203 on Wednesday and was STUNNED to see the plane swarmed by emergency trucks. Passenger Larry Coben tweeted: "All we have been told is that some passengers have fallen ill and we should remain in our seats".

The remainder of the passengers were allowed to leave and clear customs, the airline said.
