Eric Reid, who has been out of the NFL since filing a grievance against the league in May, alleging that teams were colluding to deny him a job, has been signed by the Carolina Panthers. He played well throughout his time there, but still found himself a free agent late in September.
Reid, 26, is a former first round pick and starter for San Francisco from 2013-17.
Reid began talks with the Panthers organization on Tuesday of this week when the team elected to send starting safety Da'Norris Searcy onto the injured reserved list. "He is a physical safety with good ball skills and play-making ability".
Kaepernick, who has filed a similar grievance with the National Football League, last appeared in a National Football League game in 2016. He was named a Pro Bowl alternate as a rookie and was named to the All-Rookie Team.
Despite widely being considered one of the better safeties available on the free-agent market, Reid had gone unsigned until this point.More news: Liverpool vs Chelsea (EFL Cup)

"I'm immensely proud of what all the guys have done that are trying to have a voice for the voiceless", Reid said. In collusion grievances, the friends and former San Francisco 49ers teammates allege owners conspired to keep them unemployed due to their political activism. I wanted to do something, but didn't know what or how to do it. I think he's a good player. The 49ers neglected to re-sign him after the 2017 season.
"I was definitely surprised, for sure", said Stills, who has kneeled during the anthem since the start of the 2016 season.
Coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Thursday that the 49ers seriously pursued the possibility of re-signing veteran safety Eric Reid.
Justin Reid said he planned to call his brother to congratulate him after practice Thursday on signing a one-year deal with Carolina. Reid continued to protest through last season.
