A name that has been tied to the Cleveland Browns as a potential coaching candidate has officially become available as the Green Bay Packers fired Mike McCarthy on Sunday. They struggled on third down, going 3 for 14 in the continuation of a season-long theme.
If that wasn't enough, Kumerow christened his first National Football League appearance with an 11-yard catch from Aaron Rodgers in the fourth quarter. With him healthy once again, the expectation was for them to once again become contenders.
Now the question becomes when he will get an interview with the Browns. Under McCarthy, Green Bay went 125-77-2.
That was when the Packers officially chose to call it quits on the McCarty tenure after 13 seasons, which included a Super Bowl championship in 2010. One has been his unquestionable game management decisions in recent games.
The team is beginning the process of selecting a new head coach immediately.
As I've said and written many times before (here, here, here, here, here, and here), McCarthy's Achilles heel as a head coach and an offensive play-designer was his rigid inflexibility and inability to design passing concepts that would regularly beat even the most rudimentary of defenses.
"All of those guys in that locker room, since they have been here, have only known one coach".
McCarthy shook up his coaching staff, including bringing Philbin back as offensive coordinator and hiring Mike Pettine to replace Dom Capers as defensive coordinator.More news: Fury: Joshua would have been nailed by Wilder
