Luka Modric Expresses Desire to Retire at Real Madrid

33-year-old footballer won the award for the first time and he became the third player to claim the award after Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo in a decade.

The Real Madrid player recently bagged the prestigious Ballon d'Or, ending the ten-year dominance of Argentina striker Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal. "My family enjoy it and I want to keep enjoying this huge club", goal.com quoted Modric, as saying.

After becoming the first Croatian to win the Ballon d'Or, Modric quickly pledged his future to three-time reigning Champions League holders Madrid amid links with Serie A side Inter.

The 33-year-old Modric - who was also named FIFA's Best Men's Player this year - helped Croatia to the World Cup final in Russian Federation having guided Madrid to a third successive Champions League crown.

Modric, 33, finished ahead of 2017 victor Ronaldo of Juventus and Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann for the prize, leaving Messi, who was fifth, outside the top three for the first time since 2006.

"Maybe in the past there were some players who could have won the Ballon d'Or like Xavi, [Andres] Iniesta or, I don't know, [Wesley] Sneijder, but it didn't happen". He guided the Croatian team to the World Cup final, only to see the side ultimately losing 2-4 to France.

"It feels wonderful. I'm proud to win this handsome award".

"The change of position helped me a lot in my career".

Modric will hope to lead Madrid to victory when they tackle Melila on Thursday in the Copa del Rey fixture.
