Directed by Vijay Gutte, The Accidental Prime Minister stars Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh, German actor Suzanne Bernert as former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Ahana Kumra as Priyanka Gandhi, Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi and Akshaye Khanna as Sanjaya Baru.
The Indian National Congress's Maharashtra State Youth Wing has already demanded a special screening ahead of the release of the film.
As the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party traded barbs over biopic The Accidental Prime Minister, Anupam Kher - who plays the role of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh - said "we can't change history", reports news agency ANI.
Anupam Kher featured in two of the most dramatic and most amusing movies of 2018, Aiyaary and Baa Baa Black Sheep, respectively. The party has threatened the producers of the upcoming movie, The Accidental Prime Minister, with dire consequences if they refuse to pre-screen the movie in front of party leaders for being edited according to their own wishes.
The BJP, on Thursday evening, tweeted the trailer from its official handle yesterday, a move that did not go down well with the Congress.More news: Italian football fan dies amid Inter-Napoli clashes
The trailer was well received by the ruling BJP, which tweeted the clip along with praises.
Meanwhile, protagonist Anupam Kher, who is essaying the role of Manmohan Singh said, "Don't anticipate the film, the film has been made, so many things are happening in the country, this will happen too".
The makers of The Accidental Prime Minister have released the trailer of the movie, and has received positive response from viewers on social media.
The trailer also shows glimpses of hard episodes in Manmohan Singh's tenure, mostly internal churnings in the Congress.
"Haal hi main Rahul Gandhi ji ka tweet padha tha, jisme freedom of expression pe unhone bola tha, toh I think unko daatna chahiye un logon ko ki aap ghalat baat kar rahe ho (Recently, Rahul Gandhi had tweeted on freedom of expression, so he should take them (those protesting) to task and say what they are doing is wrong)", the actor further said. "So much worse than being the accidental one", his dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi barely hidden. "But I am an actor, they will decide". Akshay Khanna is playing Sanjaya Baru, who was the media adviser of Manmohan Singh, in the film, which is scheduled to hit the theaters on 11th January 2019.
