Ellen, herself a two-time Oscar host, revealed during Friday's interview that she called the Academy to get their thoughts on Hart possibly returning as host. "So let me assess, just to sit in this space and really think, and you and I will talk before anything else".
The comedienne then called the Academy and asked them if they would take Hart back, to which they apparently said yes.
Though DeGeneres has been a beloved gay icon for years, her fans in and out of the LGBTQ community were extremely disappointed with her response to Hart's homophobic drama.
"I've taken ten years to put my apology to work".
On the topic of internet haters, Hart describes what happened to him as a "malicious attack on his character" from people wanting to destroy his career. "Because that was wrong". "The night will be about you, and it should be about you, and you should host the Oscars". I believe in second chances.
Degeneres told Hart that she forgave him for his comments and encouraged him to ignore the "haters" so he can host the event with "sophistication, class, [and] hilarity".More news: Kante strike earns Chelsea slim win at Crystal Palace
While Hart remains a possibility, the Academy is continuing to explore other options, including running the show without a host but featuring many celebrity cameos.
Openly gay talk show host Ellen DeGeneres had Hart appear on her daytime program. Not everyone heard, read, or was aware of Hart's past apology, so for many these old tweets and jokes were brand new.
Hart didn't make any promises to accept the job, but did promise to reconsider the offer. "You have apologised. You're apologising again right now". "Somehow I'll get to the stage but it's not going to be in this way because it just comes with such a weird cloud at this point". I've moved on. I'm a grown man.
Hart believes his previous apologies for the tweets at a 2012 press junket and the 2015 promotional tour for Get Hard were enough, but stepped down as the Oscars host and reiterated the sentiment when they reemerged. "I want to be done with this conversation".
Though he stayed firm on his stance that he won't host the show, he does believe that he'll be on the stage one day, and insisted that "there's no ill will toward the Academy". "Don't let those people win - host the Oscars".
The former Saturday Night Live star added "FREE LOUIE [sic] CK!" and declared that if Hart doesn't host the Oscars he will boycott. I'm the first person to say it.
