A woman reportedly called the police after she spotted Closs while out walking her dog, telling WCCO that the young teen approached her and said she needed help.
"I have a gut feeling she's (Jayme's) still alive", Fitzgerald said at the time. "And we will never stop looking for you".
According to Kasinskas, Jayme appeared thin and ragged. Investigators said Jayme was quickly ruled out as a suspect.
"She looked the same as in all the photos and little thinner". County buildings dedicated Christmas trees to Jayme, decorating them in her favorite colors and the word "Hope".

Closs vanished October 15 after her parents were fatally shot in their home in Barron County, which is about 80 miles northeast of Minneapolis and 65 miles from where she was found. Closs was inside the home where her parents were shot but vanished, prompting a statewide search that included the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
A 911 call placed from Denise Closs' phone picked up sounds of a struggle in the background, but the caller didn't communicate with the dispatcher.
When the police arrived only four minutes later, they found the front door kicked in and Denise, 46, and her husband James, 56, shot dead.
Two thousand people - law enforcement officers, first responders and volunteers - searched for possible clues. Her tight knight community kept the faith over the holidays, holding a Christmas tree vigil for her.
Allard said she and other family members didn't have a lot of details about what happened, and they were asked by authorities not to say too much about what they do know. WDIO-TV plans to carry the news conference live at about 10 a.m. Following her release, Jayme will get the chance to reunite with her family.
"A lot of people were very concerned, did a lot of praying and all that", he said. Jayme's grandfather, Robert Naiberg, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that Jayme was taken to hospital.
