Increased competition from local phone producers in China, where Apple makes 20 per cent of its total revenue, have hit the company's ability to keep growing in the market, chief executive Tim Cook told shareholders last week. Though the WSJ doesn't offer details about the new triple-lens camera, the additional lens should give the device an extra level of optical zoom. The iPhone XR in particular hasn't proved especially popular amongst consumers, but it seems Apple's sticking with the lower-price, LED-screen model nonetheless. The latter will effectively replace the iPhone XR. In fact, both have identical specifications (processor, camera and features) safe for their screen sizes and battery capacity - the iPhone XS has a 5.8-inch display and a 2,658mAh battery while the iPhone Xs Max features a 6.5-inch display and a 3,174mAh battery.

And in 2020, the Journal wrote, the company's entire lineup could have organic light-emitting diode, or OLED, displays, which are considered a step up from liquid crystal displays. Reports for the company's problems with the iPhone XR continue to surface, fuelled by analysts decreasing shipment estimates for the smartphone. It's possible that Haptic Touch will extend to all iPhone models if Apple gets rid of 3D Touch entirely. It isn't clear whether Apple is planning to introduce any major features for the iPhone XR successor, or whether it will just be all about spec upgrades.
But Apple lags behind its rivals in the number of rear cameras. The retailer has also discounted the iPhone 8; a device that's also the target of discounts by other retailers. Industry watchers have said that their higher price tag-the iPhone XS starts at $999 and the iPhone XS Max starts at $1,099-hobbled sales and forced Apple to revise its production downward to address lower-than-expected demand.
