- Rudy Giuliani, personal attorney to President Donald Trump, in comments given to Isaac Chotiner of the New Yorker after asking if he ever anxious that his legacy would be tarnished by "saying things for Trump, [and] not always being truthful about it".
Speaking to The New Yorker, Giuliani was asked what his latest opinion is on the disputed Buzzfeed report which claimed that Trump had personally asked Cohen to lie to Congress about the Moscow tower project in order to shield his involvement in it.
"The president never spoke with Cohen about the congressional testimony", Giuliani told Daily News, asserting he had confirmed that with previous members of Trump's legal team.
Over the weekend, Rudy told NBC News' Chuck Todd that Trump was still discussing the Trump Tower Moscow deal as late as November of 2016, and called it an "active proposal". Trump publicly encouraged the Russians to hack Hillary Clinton's private server, though he later said he was joking.More news: Winter storm warning for McHenry County in effect until noon Saturday
During his interview with the New Yorker on Monday, Giuliani said that, "as a lawyer", he did not believe he had ever said anything untruthful and claimed he has "a sense of ethics that is as high as anybody you can imagine".
Part of his confusion is that while Giuliani frequently speaks to his client, the president's legal team has had a hard time corralling Trump for a lengthy debriefing about the facts of the case, particularly from events stemming before the presidency, according to one official and a Republican close to the White House.
The Democrat also said he would "do everything necessary to make the [final Mueller] report public but more than that, because [the Trump administration] will fight us on this, we need to do our own investigations because at the end of the day if the Justice Department tries to stonewall the release of that report for whatever reason, the American people are going to need to know what happened, and we're going to have to press forth". I just told you he didn't do it,"Giuliani said". BuzzFeed stands by the story and asks for clarity from Mueller's team. So anytime during that period they could've talked about it.
Speaking with The New Yorker, the former mayor said he is "absolutely" anxious about his legacy amounting to lying for the president.
"Absolutely. I am afraid it will be on my gravestone. Trump's done a darn good job as president, '" Trump Jr. said. Somehow, I don't think that will be it.
That statement, which suggested that the Trump Organization was engaged in business dealings with Russian Federation up to and beyond the election, ignited a firestorm and then an abrupt walk-back from Giuliani. "But, if it is, so what do I care?"
