Video footage obtained by FOX 11 News in Green Bay shows the former Packers coach approaching and then confronting a group of officials following Notre Dame Academy's one-point loss to Pulaski in a regional playoff game Tuesday night. Pulaski Athletic Director Janel Batten said the situation was "clearly unacceptable".
A man, who appears to be McCarthy, follows the referees and their escorts as far he was allowed to, accompanied by what one of the officials described as a "verbal tirade". The Pulaski School District says the report was not filed by the district, but by game officials involved in the incident.
Although audio cannot be heard, McCarthy can be seen gesturing until the referees continued on their way and he turned and left.
There was talk that he was in the mix for the Browns' job because of his previous Green Bay relationships with Cleveland GM John Dorsey and assistant GM Eliot Wolf, but that all fizzled out when the Browns stuck with Freddie Kitchens.More news: Blue Jackets pick up Ryan Dzingel in Senators’ fire sale
"Have you ever seen a parent walk after an official like that?" Batten asked Fox 11.
'Not here and not in my time as an athletic director, ' she said.
The incident was so serious that officials have reportedly filed an "abuse against contest officials" which is why McCarthy is being investigated. 'We will continue to stress the importance of sportsmanship and respect to our students, parents, fans, and community members'. 'So that is important, so we've taken some measures in our conference, specifically at our school, we do things maybe that are a little different.
The sports agency representing McCarthy didn't immediately return a request for comment.
