Although she was clearly full of life and doing all she could to stay healthy, Freeman had been dealing with various issues related to her health prior to her passing.
She was reportedly at home with her husband, Dion, when she began complaining she couldn't breathe. Dion called 911 and performed CPR on his wife until paramedics arrived. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m.
Cyrus, 26, shared a sweet tribute to Freeman on her Instagram Sunday with a picture of a rainbow poking out above the trees. She is survived by her husband and daughter, and we wish them our condolences at this incredibly hard time.More news: Trump Delays Increase in Tariffs on Chinese Goods
Freeman had appeared on the televised singing competition in 2017 for its 13th season where she was coached by Miley Cyrus.
"Miley, you are my dawg, like my best friend, and I will defend you to the bitter end", Freeman said in an Instagram live video. She revealed on Twitter a year ago that the pop star had helped her family cover some bills until they found permanent housing.
Freeman stunned judges of "The Voice" during season 13 with a powerful rendition of "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons. "She was a BEAST vocalist", singer Crystal Lewis tweeted.
"She felt very weak the next morning, and my clients were very concerned and suggested she check into an ER before getting back on a plane, but Janice chose to fly home to L.A.", the rep continued".
"And I think that you should know that, no matter what, maybe you're the reason why next season someone like you will walk through this door", Cyrus chimed in. "This represents you perfectly", Cyrus, 26, wrote. "And may God rest her too-young soul", MSNBC host Joy Reid tweeted.
