Tuesday night, that smoke became a reality: The Browns have acquired wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The Giants finished the campaign with a 5-11 record, their fifth losing season in the last six.
Trades can't be made official until the beginning of the new league year at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
LeBron James sounds ready to get Beckham's Browns jersey as he welcomed him to his old town with a photo of him photoshopped in a Browns uniform and a picture of Beckham and Landry from their early days at LSU.
The moves comes on the heels of the Steelers trading to Brown to the Raiders for a third- and fifth-round pick, meaning Pittsburgh lost one of the best receivers in the National Football League while the Browns gained one. More than anything, they don't have the pillar quarterback around whom to build.More news: Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez announce engagement on Instagram
But the Giants have three of the top 37 draft picks in April, and 12 overall. He's a physical freak who has some of the same downfield playmaking ability as Beckham, although he's not almost as elusive or explosive after the catch. But, for now, they appear to be in the process of retooling, so they could have trouble improving greatly - unless they add another quality receiver and a quarterback in the draft. Or maybe it's just the nature of the business that any free agent running back is going to struggle to really pull in a huge amount of money.
The Packers did this previous year too, by the way, spending big on Jimmy Graham and Muhammad Wilkerson.
Jarvis Landry says his pal Odell Beckham Jr. The Giants lost the game 38-13 and Beckham was held to four catches for just 28 yards. If you want to rebuild without Odell, you don't sign him to that contract.
It also makes the Browns a strong contender to win the AFC North and possibly even make a Super Bowl run.
